World Cup food

I've got to be honest here, I've got little or no interest in the shenanigans going on in Germany at the moment as grown men chase a little white ball around a field in-between kicking the opposing players and kissing their own team, each to his own I suppose. However I am very interested from a food point of view because in 4 years time they'll be doing the same thing here in South Africa and maybe we could learn a thing or two in advance about the culinary activities associated with the tournament.
The English of course are totally predictable. Their idea of experiencing the culture of a foreign country is to take their own grub with them. You've only got to look at their favourite Spanish resorts which sell more fish n' chips and warm bitter than they do in most major metropolitan areas back in the UK. So it's no surprise that a bunch of England fans are paying a fortune to get some traditional English grub flown out to them in Germany. So, what is this very English meal? Erm, an Indian takeaway...It's certainly the strangest order they've ever taken at Bombay Nights in Bath, so much so that staff took some convincing that it was genuine. Manager Abdul Nasir said: "We received a phone call on Saturday for a take-away to Germany and thought it was someone having a laugh. But we were contacted again and they gave us a deposit so we knew it was genuine.
The Czech Republic squad got their hotel to hire a Czech chef to serve up some proper knedlich, which is apparently a kind of dumpling, while the Mexico squad went through their hotel's entire supply of chili peppers, resulting in one poor member of staff being sent out to try and rustle up some more before the footballers ran out of tortillas. However, the prize for most fussy squad goes to World Cup newcomers Ivory Coast, who have made sure they get the food they want by taking their own parents with them. "Our parents have come together, my mother is in charge of them, and they organise everything for us off the pitch," Didier Drogba said. "They cook for us and make sure we are looked after.
