Rooibos routs colonial opportunists

We won ! After a 10 year long litagation battle and over R 10 million in lawyer's fees, rooibos farmers in South Africa have finally won the legal right to call their product Rooibos in the USA and several other countries. But how did this bizarre situation come about, after all rooibos is as Souf Efrican as biltong and boeries.
Well it seems that some clever colonial opportunists, probably still smarting from the Boston Tea Party, decided in 1994 to register the name " rooibos " in the USA and a few other countries and then restricted the use of the name solely to those companies willing to do business with them - so much for the moral high ground, the great American dream and the land of the free. It would never have happened if Big John Wayne was in charge. Anyway by 2001 the carpetbaggers, or should that be teabaggers, a company called Forever Young ( probably stole that song title as well ), assigned their rights to Virginia Burke-Watkins of Dallas Texas who would have been better advised to stick to " black gold, Texas tea " rather than trying to wring out our teabags.
Anyway Rooibos Ltd, our largest producer and marketer of rooibos internationally and it's Managing Director, Martin Bergh, get full credit for pursuing and winning this case on behalf of the rooibos industry. Now this great tasting and healthy, caffeine free, beverage from the Cedarberg will be available without constraint in the rapidly growing US market. So what's next ? What about those bloody Frenchies who won't let us term our sparkling wine as champagne or those other EU bozos who claim we aren't allowed to call our port, port ?
